Miracell® Stem Cell Therapy in Vienna
Modern, endogenous regeneration in orthopedics
What is the Miracell® method?
Miracell® stem cell therapy is an innovative, minimally invasive orthopedic procedure. Regenerative cell components are extracted from the body’s own material and then specifically injected into the affected joint or tissue. The goal is to support natural healing processes, reduce inflammatory reactions, and improve the function of stressed structures.
Two methods of cell extraction
- Extraction from venous blood (classic Miracell® preparation)
The required regenerative components are taken via a standard blood draw and processed directly in the office using the Miracell® system. This method is particularly suitable for incipient arthrosis, overload complaints, or tendon irritation.
- Extraction from the bone marrow of the iliac crest (extended stem cell therapy)
For certain orthopedic indications, cell extraction is performed as a minor procedure:
Under sedation or brief anesthesia, the iliac crest is punctured and stem cell-rich bone marrow blood is extracted. The bone marrow contains the highest concentration of stem cells in the body – similar to a bone marrow harvest for transplants in blood disorders. The extracted cells are then processed in the Miracell® system and prepared into a highly concentrated stem cell preparation. This is then precisely introduced into the affected joint.
Since only the body’s own material is used in both variants, the therapy is generally very well tolerated and associated with a short recovery period.
In which areas is Miracell® stem cell therapy used?
Large joints:
- Knee
- Shoulder
- Hip
- Ankle
- Elbow
- Wrist
Small joints:
- Trapeziometacarpal joint
- Metatarsophalangeal joint
For which complaints is Miracell® stem cell therapy suitable?
Joint arthrosis
In cases of incipient to moderate arthrosis, the therapy can often support joint function and reduce pain without immediately having to consider surgical intervention.
Sports and overload complaints
Regenerative cell therapies can promote healing processes in recurrent or persistent complaints, such as:
• Tendon irritation
• (Partial) ligament injuries
• Muscle injuries
• Tendinopathies
Local cartilage damage
In the case of cartilage defects, the Miracell® method can help initiate natural repair processes and improve the resilience of the affected joint.
Chronic inflammation and pain syndromes
If conservative measures such as physiotherapy, medication, or classic infiltrations are not sufficiently effective, Miracell® stem cell therapy can be an additional treatment option.
Treatment procedure
- Consultation & Diagnostics
The beginning is a detailed orthopedic examination in my office in Vienna. With the help of imaging techniques and an individually tailored therapy plan, it is determined whether and in what form Miracell® therapy makes sense.
- Extraction of the body’s own cells
Depending on the findings, either:
- a venous blood draw
- a bone marrow puncture on the iliac crest under sedation/brief anesthesia to obtain particularly stem cell-rich cells.
The extracted cell components are processed directly on site in the Miracell® system.
- Targeted injection
The cell or stem cell concentrate is precisely injected into the affected area, depending on the findings under ultrasound or X-ray control.
- Protection & Development
The treatment is followed by a phase of short-term rest. Subsequently, a structured physiotherapeutic development program supports regeneration. The interaction of therapy and active rehabilitation is crucial for an optimal result.
Limits & Notes
Miracell® stem cell therapy can support regenerative processes and alleviate complaints. However, it does not replace surgical measures in every case. Whether the method is suitable for you will be clarified individually in a personal consultation.

How quickly will I notice an improvement?
The effect usually does not occur immediately. Many patients report noticeable improvement only after several weeks or months, as regenerative processes develop gradually.
How long does the treatment take?
A session usually takes 30–60 minutes. If a bone marrow aspiration is performed, a short observation period after sedation should be planned. After that, you can usually leave the clinic independently.
Are there any side effects?
As only the patient’s own cells are used, the therapy is generally well tolerated. Temporary irritation, swelling, or a feeling of pressure at the injection or aspiration site may occur but usually subside quickly.
How many sessions are required?
Depending on the findings, a single treatment may be sufficient. In some cases, multiple sessions may be beneficial. This is determined during the individual consultation.
Can I return to sports activities immediately afterwards?
Rest is recommended immediately after the treatment. Returning to sports should be gradual and ideally accompanied by physiotherapy.
Who is not suitable for this therapy?
Contraindications may include certain infections, acute systemic diseases, or specific blood coagulation disorders. These factors are carefully evaluated in advance.
Is the treatment covered by health insurance?
Stem cell therapy is a private medical service. You will receive a detailed invoice, which you may submit to your supplementary insurance provider if applicable.
