Rules of Conduct before Surgery
Dear Patient,
For your safety: Rules of conduct before surgery
Please help to avoid preventable incidents by strictly observing the following rules of conduct:
If findings are outside the norm (e.g. laboratory values marked with *), an improvement may have to be brought about before your operation.
Therefore, please call Dr. Mark Schurz (0676/97 400 49) or your pre-anesthesia clinic!
On the day of the operation, do not eat anything within 6 hours before the anesthesia and only drink clear liquids (e.g. still mineral water).
On the day of the operation, do not drink any clear liquids within 4 hours before the anesthesia, stay sober!
Exception: Taking tablets with a sip of water
Do not smoke on the day of anesthesia!
Please do not chew gum!
Take your medication on the day of the operation as you discussed it in the pre-anesthesia clinic. Some medications should continue to be taken without a break on the day of the operation (e.g. medications for high blood pressure, elevated fat levels), some must be discontinued (e.g. medications for diabetes) and others must be individually differentiated or continued (e.g. blood-thinning medications such as Marcoumar, Clopidogrel).
Do not take removable dentures (tooth parts) with you to the operation (otherwise we will keep the tooth parts before the start of anesthesia without assuming any liability). If you plan to stay overnight in the recovery room, tooth parts will be picked up from the ward in due course.
Leave all removable jewelry in the ward (e.g. earrings, finger rings, necklaces, piercings).
If you have severe visual impairment or hearing loss, you can take your glasses or hearing aid with you to the OR.
Please remove your nail polish.
Please do not use greasy skincare on your face and do not put on make-up before the operation.
We wish you all the best for your procedure!
