{"id":2696,"date":"2018-09-20T13:19:44","date_gmt":"2018-09-20T11:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fraktur.at\/post-operative-treatment-for-anterior-cruciate-ligament-replacement\/"},"modified":"2025-10-07T14:26:58","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T12:26:58","slug":"post-operative-treatment-for-anterior-cruciate-ligament-replacement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fraktur.at\/en\/op-information\/post-operative-treatment-for-anterior-cruciate-ligament-replacement\/","title":{"rendered":"Post-operative Treatment for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Replacement"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]Patient information:<\/p>\n<h1>Post-operative Treatment: Anterior Cruciate Ligament Replacement Surgery<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Dear Patient, <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For optimal treatment, please provide your physiotherapist with the following post-operative treatment plan:<\/p>\n<p>The cruciate ligament replacement was performed using a tendon graft from the patient&#8217;s own body<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>from the semitendinosus tendon (hamstring tendon)<\/li>\n<li>from the quadriceps tendon (thigh extensor tendon, middle third)<\/li>\n<li>from the patellar ligament (patellar tendon, middle third)<\/li>\n<li>Allograft (human donor tendon)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The replacement cruciate ligament was fixed with screws (1) or metal buttons (2) on the femoral condyle and the tibial head.<\/p>\n<p>Tibial head:<\/p>\n<p>Femoral condyle:<\/p>\n<h2>Goal of Cruciate Ligament Replacement Surgery<\/h2>\n<p>The goal of cruciate ligament replacement surgery is good function and high stability, and regaining full athletic ability after approximately 6-8 months. Our post-operative treatment concept provides a rough timeline and classification. The timeframes may be extended depending on the individual&#8217;s progress.<\/p>\n<h2>Phase I (1st to 2nd Week):<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Goal: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pain relief Reduction of swelling<\/li>\n<li>Mobility S 0-0-60 (range of motion from straight extension to right-angled flexion)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Weight-bearing: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Walking with foot sole contact Forearm crutches and 4-point brace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Brace treatment: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ice or cooling compression bandage<\/li>\n<li>Donjoy brace locked at 0-0-60 during the day<\/li>\n<li>Thrombosis stockings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Physical therapy: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>passive movement two to three times daily<\/li>\n<li>active mobilization without significant weight-bearing<\/li>\n<li>Lymphatic drainage for severe swelling and isometric passive physical therapy 0-0-60<\/li>\n<li>Motor splint 0-0-60<\/li>\n<li>Ice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Medication: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thrombosis prophylaxis (Lovenox 40mg once daily)<\/li>\n<li>Diclofenac 3x 50 mg daily<\/li>\n<li>Gastric protection<\/li>\n<li>Sirdalud 2 mg 1&#215;1 in the evening<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Phase II (3rd to 6th Week):<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Goal: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mobility of the knee joint 0-0-90 3rd &amp;
