Common causes of injury include <strong>high-impact sports<\/strong> such as skiing, mountain biking, martial arts, and motorsports. Men are therefore more frequently affected than women. In cases of severely displaced fractures, <strong>clavicle fracture surgery<\/strong> is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>In a clavicle fracture, the bone usually breaks in the middle third. Further examinations are only necessary in exceptional cases.<\/p>\n<p>Clavicle fractures are classified as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Intermediate fractures<\/strong> =&gt; centrally located =&gt; most common<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lateral fractures <\/strong>=&gt; externally located =&gt; second most common<\/li>\n<li><strong>Medial fractures<\/strong> =&gt; very internally located =&gt; rare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Clavicle Fracture Conservative Treatment<\/h2>\n<p>Hairline cracks or only minimally displaced fractures can be treated with an arm sling and do not require surgery.<\/p>\n<h2>Clavicle Fracture Surgery<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-820 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/fraktur.at\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Schluesselbeinfraktur-mittig-OP-Platte-300x227.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"227\"><\/p>\n<p>Surgery is necessary for a <strong>massively displaced<\/strong> or <strong>shortened fracture<\/strong>. The further apart the bone fragments are, the higher the risk that the bones will not unite properly without surgery.<\/p>\n<p>During clavicle fracture surgery, after reduction of the fracture, fixation is performed using a <strong>titanium plate<\/strong> or <strong>titanium nail<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If inadequate therapy leads to malunion, a <a href=\"https:\/\/fraktur.at\/en\/fracture-malunion-and-pseudarthroses\/\">pseudarthrosis<\/a>, <strong>persistent pain<\/strong> and <strong>impaired function<\/strong> result.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, you cannot use your arm or shoulder without pain. A <strong>clavicle pseudarthrosis<\/strong> requires surgical therapy. In this procedure, the malunited area is removed and replaced with a bone graft. Finally, a metal plate stabilizes the clavicle. The special anatomically pre-formed plates are individually adjusted to ensure optimal implant fit.<\/p>\n<h2>Clavicle Fracture Surgery Aftercare<\/h2>\n<p>An <strong>arm sling<\/strong> relieves the arm after surgery. This reduces pain and allows the wound to heal undisturbed. Physiotherapy and shoulder movement should begin immediately after clavicle fracture surgery, as the shoulder is stabilized by the plate.
